Cow Pot (Casterton Fell)
Several fixed ropes and ladders are in place throughout the Ease Gill system. These are not monitored or inspected and are nothing to do with the CNCC. They should never be used. Always take your own ropes where they are required.
Permit requests can be made by email by any BCA member club. Regretably at the moment permits cannot be issued to individual BCA members or non-BCA clubs, but be assured that this is something we are working to change.
Permit availability is two per weekday (three for weekday bank holidays) and five on Saturdays and Sundays. Check the Google Calendar for availability before requesting a permit:
LH = Lancaster Hole
Cow = Cow Pot
PS = Pool Sink
TS = Top Sink
WR = Wretched Rabbit
CP = County Pot
Please note the restriction of eight cavers per permit so if you anticipate a larger group please make this known so two permits can be issued to cover this.
Note that although we request a specific entrance (or entrances) to be included on the permit request to help highlight potential congestion issues and encourage spreading of caver traffic, the permit is actually for caving in general on the fell. Therefore, it can be used to access any of the cave entrances on Casterton Fell on the stated date. If visiting an entrance not specified on your permit please be courteous to any other groups who did specify that entrance.
Apply for a permit
Your permit secretary for Casterton Fell is Geoff Whittaker and you can apply by the following methods...
Sorry, Cow Pot is not part of the online booking system yet. We hope to expand it to include more areas in the future.
Applications should be sent from an email address associated with your club (e.g. email@example.com), or from an address that can be easily validated as being associated to your club (via your club website for example). Other email addresses are fine, but first applications should be accompanied by a letter (an attached scan), with club letterhead, signed by an officer of the club. This will authenticate the email address for all future permit applications for that club.
Please note that email is the preferred means of requesting a permit. Postal requests for permits can be accepted but must be on a letter with club letterhead, signed by an Officer of the club. Please include a stamped self-addressed envelope for the reply.
