Hazards and Warnings
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Occasional 'Scour tests' are performed at Scar House Reservoir upstream of the Goyden/New Goyden/Manchester Hole system. This involves the release of water from the reservoir and can cause sudden and serious downstream flooding including the caves. All cavers are strongly advised to telephone Yorkshire Water on 03331300925 before any trip and specifically ask for ‘Dates for Scour Tests on Scar House Reservoir’. Note that contrary to historical advice, there is no longer a superintendent at Scar House Reservoir to ask this in person. Also be aware of the possibility that extremely strong winds can cause overtopping if the reservoir is very full which can cause flood pulses downstream.
