Rift Pot caution required

We have received a report of a rockfall originating from above the entrance pitch of Rift Pot on the Ingleborough Allotment.

An ascending caver was showered with rocks, which appeared to originate from a slope of loose material above the anchors for the main hang of this pitch, on the opposite side of the shakehole from the route of approach.

The caver is fine, but sustained a knock to the knee and serious staining to his underwear.

We are conscious that with the weather turning poor, caves such as Rift Pot on the Ingleborough Allotment which are navigable in wet conditions will start to become more popular. Hence, we are issuing this warning to alert any groups visiting over the coming few months to pay extra attention to the area above this final Y-hang of the first pitch.

We suggest a careful inspection for any loose debris overhanging this entrance pitch, and that you might want to consider appropriate remedial actions to facilitate a safe descent where possible.
