A modern online cave access system

The CNCC is currently working with the landowners for Ingleborough Estate to trial a new system of managed cave access on Gaping Gill, The Allotment and Newby Moss.

This new system uses an online calendar-based booking system. It is a compromise system which has been developed with the support of the landowner (who desires managed cave access to continue) and the CNCC, who seek greater freedom and ease of access to the caves in our region.

For more information and some background to this please see CNCC newsletters 6 and 7 on our website publications page.

This system is currently in the testing phase, and so is not yet in the public domain. Therefore, for now please continue to request permits as usual by emailing the Permit Secretary, Geoff Whittaker, as per the details on the CNCC website.

However, from June onwards, in response to requests for permits, Geoff may (depending on whether there is sufficient time before your planned trip), reply to invite you to use the online booking system, rather than issuing you with a conventional permit. If you are asked to use the online system, you will be provided with a web-link and some simple usage instructions.

You will then be able to make your booking online instead.

Making your booking online should take no more than a few minutes plus an initial registration. It should be intuitive and simple. Bookings made via the online system are live immediately.

Your assistance with this, plus any feedback would be greatly appreciated to help us thoroughly test the online system and progress it towards full implementation for all cavers.

Thank you for your support.
