AKA Hole anchored

AKA Hole on Leck Fell connected to Ireby Fell Caverns

This is a new discovery on Leck Fell by the Misty Mountain Mud Miners, between Ireby Fell Caverns and Notts Pot.

On 5th October, AKA Hole (an abbreviation from ‘The Top Sink AKA Uranus Hole’) was connected into Ireby Fell Caverns at a depth of 80m in the Blissful Creek area or Ireby Two. We are informed that this is not an easy route into this part of the system, and there are some unstable sections and loose rocks, particularly around the connection.

Therefore, this is clearly a route into the system that needs to be taken with some seriousness, but it nonetheless seems likely to gain popularity over coming years.

Work has just finished to install CNCC stainless steel resin bonded IC anchors (reported in Descent 301). We have added the cave to our website and online booking system and uploaded a rigging topo.

A description of the route will hopefully be added at some point in the not-to-distant future.

Enjoy this excellent new discovery, but as with any new excavation, go carefully, watch out for loose rocks, and expect a moderate amount of traffic for the first several months (a good reason to use the Online Booking System).
