NAMHO 2026 in our region

NAMHO 2026 comes to our region - 19th-22nd June

The National Association of Mining History Organisations (NAMHO) will be holding their annual conference for 2026 in Grinton near Reeth. Much like Hidden Earth, this will be a weekend-long event with onsite camping and bar, talks throughout Saturday and Sunday, and unlike Hidden Earth there will also be a variety of guided trips.

The event is hosted by the North York Moors Caving Club and the Moldywarps Speleological Group, two clubs with a history of cave and mine exploration in the area (an area where caves and mines often go hand-in-hand).

The venue is Grinton Church, with camping on the adjacent field, on-site bar, with nearby catering.

There may be opportunity for trips on the Friday and Monday too, for early arrivers or late departers. Sites such as nearby Devis Hole and the Gunnerside mines may feature, but there may be options for caving trips including Crackpot Cave, and (if anyone is feeling very determined) the newly explored New Level Cave and Draughting Hole/Missed Pot system, the latter with their associated mining connections.

We encourage cavers with a passion for mining history in Swaledale to come along for an excellent weekend.

Watch the NAMHO website for more announcements and booking information.
