Pasture Gill Pot re-fenced

The small entrance to Pasture Gill Pot in Langstrothdale isn't usually over-run by cavers… but it is more well-visited than it used to be, since inclusion in Mike Cooper's book, Not For The Faint Hearted. More recently, our anchoring of the cave and publication of the topo has reinvigourated interest amongst seekers of esoteric, short and challenging trips.

The original fencing was in a very bad way, rotten and broken, leaving the entrance pitch open to livestock.

In early October, members of the Craven Pothole Club (CPC) and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) with assistance from CNCC's Andrew Hinde (our new Projects Officer) installed new fencing around the entrance.

With Pasture Gill Pot being quite a trek up the side of Langstrothdale, it was logisticlly challenging to get all the materials up there (and the old rotten materials away).

As you can see from the photos, the team were treated to good weather, and have done an outstanding job.

The materials and funding for volunteer travel were supplied by CNCC, but we'd like to thank CPC, UWFRA and Andrew for their work, which will benefit good landowner relations, and make the entrance safe to livestock.

Thank you to John Helm for writing this up, and providing the photos.
