Hazards and Warnings

Reported 28th April 2025 - Some large rocks along the right side near the end of Nagasaki (just after the upper/lower routes mentioned in our description unite) have come loose and fallen. This could lead to further instability of some larger boulders above them. We advise cavers to bear this in mind, take additional care and please report any changes.

The Red Rose Cave and Pothole Club (RRCPC) are running Ease Gill Open House 5-14th June. This is the second year of the event and will involve entrances to Ease Gill Caverns and surrounding caves being rigged for the duration. The event is open to all cavers. For entrances which are on our online booking system, we have closed them to booking over this period to avoid disappointment for anyone expecting exclusivity. You are still free to visit any of the caves without any booking as they are on access land, but we strongly encourage you to help RRCPC make the event a success by letting them know in advance of your plans (easegillopenhouse@gmail.com) so caver traffic can be anticipated and managed. We encourage cavers to participate socially with the event after your trip (bar available), and maybe consider staying a few nights at Bull Pot Farm (booking required).

No restrictions

No permission is required. Please be courtous to land owners and follow an reasonable requests they make. Park with respect and don't block gateways etc.

No prior permission needed if approaching from Bull Pot Farm. If approaching from Leck Fell call at Leck Fell House for permission (Mr. Alan Middleton). Parking here is usually permitted. Adhere to the country code and keep to defined path.

Route description

Ease Gill Caverns

A thorough description of most of the popular entrances to, and routes through Ease Gill Caverns, to accompany the various individual rigging topos. Included are Lancaster Hole, Cow Pot, County Pot, Wretched Rabbit, Pool Sink, Boundary Pot and Top Sink and several routes between these various entrances plus some interesting round trips.
