Access
Call at house
A courtesy call at the farm / house of the land owner is required.
Coppy Gill Caves are on non-access land owned by Paul Hallam at High Birkwith Farm. Permission to descend the cave, if requested, is unlikely to be granted at present. The caves are very close to the Pennine Way public footpath but are quite overlooked and unauthorised access here may struggle to go unnoticed.
Parking suggested for free at Alum Pot green lane at Selside and then 3km approach by footpath along Coppy Gill via Low Birkwith Farm.
Alternatively CNCC has an arrangement with Low Birkwith Farm to allow cavers to park there for a fee. The track to Low Birkwith Farm is on left just before High Birkwith. Park in front of the stone barn wall where the black honesty box is attached. Pay £5 for cars or £15 for minibuses into an envelope or similar (visitor to provide) and note your registration number on the front and post it into the honesty box. No need to call at the farm, but say hello if you see or meet anyone. From there it is less than 1 km to most of the High Birkwith caves via the footpath starting just next to Coppy Gill.
This cave is NOT on access land. Click here for more information.
