Access

Dismal Hill Cave is on non-access land owned by Paul Hallam at High Birkwith Farm. Permission to descend the cave, if requested, is unlikely to be granted. Note that the entrance is only a few hundred metres away from the Ribble Way public footpath. Note grid references is for original entrance (new oil drum entrance about 40m away on opposite side of the track).

Parking suggested for free at Alum Pot green lane at Selside and then 3km approach by footpath along Coppy Gill via Low Birkwith Farm.

Alternatively CNCC has an arrangement with Low Birkwith Farm to allow cavers to park there for a fee. The track to Low Birkwith Farm is on left just before High Birkwith. Park in front of the stone barn wall where the black honesty box is attached. Pay £5 for cars or £15 for minibuses into an envelope or similar (visitor to provide) and note your registration number on the front and post it into the honesty box. No need to call at the farm, but say hello if you see or meet anyone. From there it is less than 1 km to most of the High Birkwith caves via the footpath starting just next to Coppy Gill.

This cave is NOT on access land. Click here for more information.
