Hazards and Warnings

Very confusing maze-cave. Ensure suitable navigational aids are carried. There have been reports (July 2015) of recent rock fall and collapse in Knock Fell Caverns, particularly noticeable through the Southern Complex.

Access

No restrictions

No permission is required. Please be courtous to land owners and follow an reasonable requests they make. Park with respect and don't block gateways etc.

The entrance to Knock Fell Caverns is on Access Land. Natural England have requested that cavers email Martin Furness (Senior Reserve Manager, Northern Pennines NNR) via Martin.Furness@naturalengland.org.uk to obtain a permit. The permit is accompanied by a code of conduct to sign and return. Where your visit is planned with sufficient advance notice, we do encourage cavers to help sustain relations with Natural England by ontaining a permit, even though this is not an absolute requirement due to the cave being on Access Land. A GPS/Compass is essential to locate the entrance, and a survey for the caverns is essential to help with routefinding once underground (included below).
