New Goyden Pot (Nidderdale)
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Occasional 'Scour tests' are performed at Scar House Reservoir upstream of the Goyden/New Goyden/Manchester Hole system. This involves the release of water from the reservoir and can cause sudden and serious downstream flooding including the caves. All cavers are strongly advised to telephone Yorkshire Water on 03331300925 before any trip and specifically ask for ‘Dates for Scour Tests on Scar House Reservoir’. Note that contrary to historical advice, there is no longer a superintendent at Scar House Reservoir to ask this in person. Also be aware of the possibility that extremely strong winds can cause overtopping if the reservoir is very full which can cause flood pulses downstream.

We have had a report that a block has fallen out of the roof between the entrance and first pitch and another is on the move. Take extra care in this area.
Updated March 2018: No need to call at any farms to visit New Goyden Pot. If travelling north from Lofthouse, it is recommended to park near a cluster of trees on the right, a few hundred metres north of the track to Thrope Farm (well before you reach Limley Farm), where a small stream crosses under the road.
Follow downstream through the wood to locate a stile in the fence to reach the riverbed very close to Thrope Pot (obvious entrance with wooden lid). Approximately 20-30m further upstream is the entrance to New Goyden under a small scar.
