Robinsons' Pot (Darnbrook & Cowside)
Issued: 8 November 2017
Ensure to cover cave entrance during visit (the farm cat has a concerning fascination with it) and be aware that a sudden rise in water levels could flood the crawl to MacColls Rift, making entry (or exit) impassible. If the river is flowing at the farm, the crawl is likely to be rather wet; only pass this crawl if confident such high water levels are dropping rather than rising.
This cave has unusual access problems, the entrance being located immediately under the kitchen window of Darnbrook Farm (about three miles south west out of Arncliffe, at the bottom of the steep hill).
Parking location will be supplied with the permit.
The National Trust have agreed to allow a permit to be issued for the first Saturday of May/June/July/August/September and the third Saturday of May/July/September, meaning a total to eight permits available per year.
Permit applications can be made by email or by post.
The landowner and tenant need to be notified near the end of each month of what permits have been issued for the following month. Therefore the latest date for which a permit can be issued will be approximately one week before the start of the month. More advanced notice is appreciated if possible.
On the day of your trip call at Darnbrook Farm (back door, right next to the manhole cover to the cave entrance) and show the permit to the tenant, who will instruct you on the best place to park.

Sorry, Robinsons' Pot is not part of the online booking system yet. We hope to expand it to include more areas in the future.
Where possible, email applications should be sent from an email address associated with your club (e.g. email@example.com), or from an address that can be easily validated as being associated to your club (via your club website for example). Other email addresses are fine, but first applications should be accompanied by a letter (an attached scan, or by post), with club letterhead, signed by an officer of the club. This will authenticate the email address for all future permit applications.
Send a letter on club letterhead paper with stamped SAE stating preferred dates.
