Access
Contact landowner
Contact should be made in advance directly with the landowner.
Strans Gill Pot is one of the small number of popular non-access land caves in Langstrothdale, although it lies only 100m off a public footpath.
Cavers wishing to gain landowner consent to visit this pothole, please call the National Trust Wharfedale Ranger team on 01756 761539 in advance of your visit, with details of your party size and date. There is an answerphone to pick up messages. It has been politely requested to also call at Yockenthwaite Farm on your way to the cave, although if nobody is around you are fine to proceed.
The land is owned by Yockenthwaite Farm. The farmer is very caver friendly, but is concerned about sheep theft, and the presence of unknown vehicles after dark, combined with lights on the fell, can raise alarm. Cavers parking in the Yockenthwaite Farm area - particularly cavers with vans - who are entering or exiting in the dark may wish to consider a friendly call/note to the farm just to put their mind at ease.
We have been advised that the entrance has been comprehensively blocked by fencing wire and posts as a measure to prevent livestock falling in, and you may need to allow some time to pull this out before being able to get underground. Please ensure the entrance is suitably stock-proofed again after your visit.
This cave is NOT on access land. Click here for more information.
