Fountains Fell access from January 2015
17 December 2014
From the 1st January 2015 there will no longer be a need for any permits for any of the caves on Rainscar land of Fountains Fell. The major caves which are covered by this include (of which two currently require a permit):
Gingling Hole
Gingling Sink
Hammer Pot
Strangle Pot
The new arrangement is for any cavers to call at Rainscar House to see the Coates family to ask permission on the day of your visit. If nobody is around at the house, it will be fine to proceed. There are no closed season restrictions.
Details have been updated on the website.
Note that caves to the west of the Gingling area (Magnetometer, Echo Pot) are not included as permission for these is required from Neals Ing farm.
Thanks to all involved and the Coates family for accommodating this greater access.
