A chance to experience the incredible underground world of the Yorkshire Dales.
Hosted by the Red Rose Cave and Pothole Club (RRCPC), this day is for anyone who's interested in taking up caving as a pastime and would like to enjoy the adventure of caving with experienced local cavers.
This will be a relaxed informative day with the main focus ensuring people have an enjoyable trip and are left keen to do more caving.
Suitable for adults and any accompanied 14-17 year olds.
We will meet at the Red Rose Cave and Pothole Club where we will spend a bit of time in the morning looking at a variety of topics covering the different types of caves, access, cave conservation, safety, geology, caving organisations and the various equipment and clothing used.
After a bit of lunch, we will get changed (caving kit can be supplied) and then head off to a suitable cave.
Underground we will look at numerous aspects of caving; moving through various types of passages, cave formations, small climbs, cave conservation, flooding, navigation and keeping ourselves safe.
Afterwards we will return to the RRCPC for refreshments and look at what options are available for anyone who feels inspired to continue with this new activity.
Caves are a challenging environment averaging 9-10degrees C, you should expect to be walking on rough ground, scrambling and climbs and to possibly get wet and muddy.
Equipment can be provided inclusive with the fee (Helmet, Light, Oversuit, Belt)
