This workshop will help you think about common situations underground where support and assistance may be needed. You will revise SRT skills so that you can coach cavers who need support (either from the pitch head or by abseiling down to talk with, or assist, them in situ).
We will consider proactive behaviours so that rescues can be avoided and look at some basic ways of assisting tired or injured cavers with and without ropework.
Suitable for cavers who want to take on more leadership on caving trips.
Also suitable for cavers relatively new to SRT as this workshop will cover things to watch out for in your personal caving, revise skills, and help you assist others who may also be relatively new to caving.
We will spend a couple of hours above ground at the YSS SRT wall, discussing scenarios and emergency equipment—including how to improvise. We will revise essential support skills such as changeovers and down prussiking and try out ropework solutions before heading UG for some scenario-based practice.
