INTRODUCTION TO PAPERLESS SURVEYING

Following the success of the previous CNCC Paperless Surveying Training Courses another date has been added.

The scope of the workshop is to introduce people with no experience of paperless surveying to the equipment and techniques needed to produce a map of a cave.

Topics covered:

  • Introduction to the kit and the various options this presents
  • Step by step introduction to the survey process
  • Short underground surveying trip
  • What we can do with the data collected
  • An introduction to Therion cave mapping software

The aim is that by the end of the weekend, candidates will, using a DistoX, PocketTopo and Therion to be able to produce simple maps and be armed with the knowledge that will enable them to further develop their paperless surveying skills.

The workshop will be held at, Mealbank Hall in Ingleton. The hall will allow us much more space than we would get at our more traditional venues.

We have booked the use the hall for the full weekend and basic accommodation is included in the course cost. Full kitchen facilities are also available to use. Ingleton also offers camping if preferred and there is the option of several club huts nearby.

Do not worry about having the correct kit as we have several sets which can be used. However, if you do have, or indeed want to put together your own DistoX /phone/PDA combo then pre-course advice can be given to get you up and running to avoid wasting time on the course weekend.
