Wretched Rabbit Closed

The Wretched Rabbit entrance to Ease Gill Caverns is currently closed.

Following our previous news story just a few days ago (click here), some Red Rose CPC members have been to inspect the situation.

The entrance is a serious hazard at the moment particularly the roof slabs just inside the entrance which are totally unsupported, move at a fingers touch and would cause serious injury or worse if they dropped on someone. The entire cliff above, and surrounding, the entrance also shows signs of cracking and movement.

The entrance is currently covered over with slabs and posts to discourage entry.

WE ADVISE, FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, DO NOT USE WRETCHED RABBIT ENTRANCE INTO EASE GILL CAVERNS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

We have assigned the cave as 'closed' as the entrance is deemed too unsafe to use. Keep an eye on the Wretched Rabbit page for up to date information.

Remedial work is being discussed between the RRCPC team and CNCC. However, the nature of this work may be extensive and require considerable engineering. Therefore, the resolution of this may not be immediate. County Pot, Pool Sink, Boundary Pot and Top Sink provide good alternative entrances to upper Ease Gill Caverns.

Thank you to Sam Lieberman (RRCPC) for keeping us updated and responding so quickly to this.
