Barbon Pot treefall

On 31st October, it was reported to us that the trees surrounding the entrance to Barbon Pot have all collapsed and have fallen across the hole.

This means there are no suitable trees to use as a belay. Additionally, the fallen trees are currently holding back lots of loose soil and rocks so the situation will deteriate as the trees rot. Furthermore, they have flattened the fence around the entrance, presenting a livestock threat.

Visitors for now will need to carefully evaluate the situation before considering a descent.

Our Access Officer has been in touch with Martin Holroyd (who has dealt with several other tree-related issues for us over the past year) and remedial work is tentatively planned for the end of November. It may be worth postponing any trips until this is sorted.

The warning on the CNCC website Barbon Pot page will be updated or removed once the issue has been resolved.
